Pillows Pillows Pillows!

With the recent renovations complete, I was itching to find some new couches for the family room, however common sense prevailed for once. Many of you have met Jake, our spoiled 12 years old miniature Schnauzer. Jake likes to hang out in family room most of the time now since he lost his sight, and finds the couches particularly comfy. How could I deprive our little guy of his home comforts? I couldn’t, so I pulled from one of the strategies we have used many times over the years in staging our listings, and bought new cushions. I had a particular look in mind and, despite many trips to Homesense, Bouclair, Linen Chest and other stores I could not find what I was looking for. One of the challenges as you know with Homesense is getting the number of matching cushions if you need more than a couple.

Finally, I resorted to looking online and came across The Pillow Shoppe. I convinced the guys to come with me to North Toronto to check it out. What a place! To be honest, it was a little overwhelming when we first went in. This place was literally wall to wall pillows and cushions with a huge section in the middle of fabric catalogs. Thankfully the owner, Pia, came to my rescue and helped me narrow down my choices. Not only do they custom make your order for whatever size and fabric you choose, you can add piping to take it up a notch.

I bought 10 pillows, 5 for each couch, and I love them. It really has rejuvenated our couches. I stayed neutral in terms of colour but varied up the textures and am delighted with the look. This really is a great way to updated and upgrade your well-loved sofas and chairs until you’re ready to replace them. One little tip though, if you are going to the expense of custom cushions, go with a neutral colour so they will compliment whatever new furniture you eventually buy.

We would love to hear any great tips you might want to share.
