2016 Canadian Open

Steeped in rich history and tradition, Glen Abbey Golf Club was once again selected to host the prestigious Canadian Open, for a record 28th time. First played in 1904, The Canadian Open is the PGA’s third longest running tournament and part of golf’s illustrious Triple Crown.

We attended the final round on Sunday afternoon, which proved to be an exhilarating race to the finish, with several players vying for the top prize. One of whom was Canadian Amateur, Jared du Toit, looking to be the first homegrown champion since 1954. His ninth place finish was impressive for an amateur playing amongst professionals. Just as profound, however, was the electric atmosphere his success generated and made us all proud to be Canadian. He is an exciting young prospect and we hope to watch him for years to come as a professional.

We may be biased as locals, but we think Glen Abbey and Oakville did an exemplary job of organizing and running such a large event. The course looked incredible, especially given our hot, dry summer, the volunteers were attentive and enthusiastic. We were thrilled to hear that Glen Abbey will play host at next year’s tournament as well, and we plan to be there again, taking in all the action.

A quick bit of trivia, who knows the other two tournaments that make up the Triple Crown? Feel free to leave your answer in the comments below!
